Shogo Hirata (b. 1986, Kyoto, Japan) is a textile artist specializing in cellulose fibers, exploring the intersections of tradition, innovation, and cultural exchange.

Drawing inspiration from traditional textile crafts and analog techniques such as photograms, Shogo’s practice is rooted in a deep engagement with materiality and process. His work merges experimentation with meticulous craftsmanship, weaving diverse techniques, materials, and cultural influences into cohesive, thought-provoking creations.

Through paper, textiles, and natural dyeing, Shogo crafts encounters where aesthetics and functionality coexist, fostering connections between history, contemporary practice, and community. His work has been exhibited extensively in Sweden and Japan, reflecting his role as an artistic bridge between the two cultures. In recent years, he has expanded his practice to include scenographic work for dance installations, further exploring the dynamic relationships between art forms.

Born and raised in Kyoto, Shogo relocated to Gothenburg in 2014 and later moved to a rural village in Hälsingland, Sweden. This shift has allowed him to deepen his connection to nature and work on larger-scale projects in harmony with his surroundings.
